Guitar Tuning Standard Method

Written by Edward D. Cupler

Start by tuning one string of the guitar to the corresponding note on another instrument. On this page, you can tune your A string to the blue A note in the color key below the guitar neck. Then proceed by tuning the other strings to your A string by first fretting the E string at the fifth fret or A note and it to the open A string. Then, fret the A string at the fifth fret or D note and tune the open D string to that note. All of the strings can be tuned in this manner with the exception that the G string must be fretted at the fourth fret or B note when tuning the open B string. To help you better understand this method, study the color-coded diagram and listen to the examples provided.
