- Scale modes are like a scale within a scale
- Each scale mode starts with one of the seven notes from the C major scale
- There are seven scale modes
- Starting the major scale from a different note changes the sequence of musical intervals and therefore, the sound of the scale.
- The modes are (in order of appearance)
- C – Ionian
- D – Dorian
- E – Phrygian
- F – Lydian
- G – Mixolydian
- A – Aeolian
- B – Locrian
