The other day one of my students complained to me that they have “Octopus fingers”.
That is to say, his fingers have a brain of their own and move however they want. Kinda like the tentacles of Dr. Octopus from Spiderman.
(Who knew, watching superhero movies gives you the perfect metaphors for guitar technique.)
Now, this student of mine was super-worried about it. He was concerned that this meant he had not enough talent or potential to become a good guitarist.
But, if we have to be honest, we all have “Octopus fingers”.
That is to say, nobody had great control of their fingers naturally from birth. We all learn to control our fingers. Sometimes we win the battle, and sometimes we lose it…
…but if we practice correctly, it’s practically guaranteed that we are going to win the war! :)
So how do you gain control of your unruly fingers? How do you (literally) bend them to your will?
In this video, I show you a simple way that worked for me. I’m not saying that this will work for 100% of guitar players, but it definitely works best than it appears at first.
So here’s how to take control of your fingers:
Have fun!
